Meet Gabe

"Man, it's crazy to think that, I'm here. Ten years ago, I was walking in the shoes of many of these kids that I now serve. I'm just grateful." (Gabe Smith)

Impactful words from one of our volunteers, Gabe, right?

That's why the Nature Bus has decided to venture into the world of blogging. We want to share the lives of those serving and being served with more depth than the 120 word character count can provide on Twitter.

For our inaugural week, we're introducing you all to Gabe. Gabe grew up in downtown OKC before the hipster crowd moved in. He has memories of the trash-strewn, abandoned streets where the canal now runs.

Also, he remembers how the downtown area was, in essence, an urban trap. Back then, park development was completely lacking or non-existent. So, when he heard about our cause during its initial weeks of formation, he reached out to our founder, Jane.

"If it wasn't for a few highly impactful motivators stepping into my life, I'd still be stuck in an urban trap making all the wrong decisions. With the help of leaders in the community, I've been able to become very successful, and I want to share that success." (Gabe Smith)

Outside of mentoring and driving kids on Saturday afternoons, Gabe works as a successful tech developer in downtown OKC. He enjoys riding his bike, organic shopping, and taking his dog Skittle to the park.
