Samson (Sam) is our first kid to feature in depth-with the permission of his nana. He joined our program about two weeks after we first started taking our first bus out.
After sending out mailers and holding a meeting in the neighborhood school gym, his grandma approached us.
"My grandson has always been such an inquisitive boy. We don't have money for video games and things of that nature and, frankly, I'd rather he be outside. It's just hard for me to let him go out without my supervision because I don't want him roaming the streets alone. The Nature Bus has provided a marvelous outlet for Sam." (Sam's nana)
One of the things we enjoy most at Nature Bus is watching kids really bloom as they get out, make friends, connect with our mentors, and play. At first, Sam was rather quiet. Now, to our pleasant surprise, we can't get him to stop talking. We're talking endless questions people.
His mentor (Michael Valquez) got him a pair of binoculars for his birthday and now Sam has declared he wants to be a "bug scientist." This both scares and excites us. Ha.
Some things Sam wants you to know about him:
Favorite bug: Caterpillar
Favorite food: Pizza
Favorite movie: Toy Story
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite thing about The Nature Bus: "I've made so many new friends! I love playing outside and every time I get on the bus with my friends I get so excited. Also, I love my new friend Michael. My new binoculars are awesome!"
Well, there you have it folks. That's one kid stoked about life. If you would like us help get other kids stoked about life through nature, check out our website to learn more and donate.
